The City of Boston has been on a trendsetting tech bender over the last few months, and been leveraging this technology to make Boston a better place to live in. Back in March Boston was recognized by the Public Institute of Technology (PIT) for it’s Citizens Connect iPhone app, and GIS (geospatial information system) Data Hub.

Since then the City has released GPS tracking for all bus routes – allowing developers to build mobile applications notifying you where the bus is – and real-time MBTA subway data – allowing developers to build mobile applications alerting you when the next train will arrive. No more sitting around endlessly waiting for a ride, the city has got your back!

On Monday November 8th, Mobile Monday Boston is hosting the Citizens Connect 2.0 launch party at Ned Devine’s. The event will feature our own Mayor Menino as a guest speaker as they kick off the official launch of the new and improved Citizens Connect mobile application.

Citizens Connect is an iPhone app that is part of the City of Boston’s strategy for Citizen-to-City transactions called Citizens Connect. The app is targeted at enlisting Boston residents and visitors to gather information about the physical state of the city, report it, and get it fixed fast. So if you are sick of seeing that same graffiti on your building or running over the same pothole everyday, you can easily notify the city. The city has already reportedly received over 50 inquiries from cities across the U.S. to replicate the application.

Mobile Monday Boston has proven itself as the best network of mobile companies and individuals in the city and this event will not be one to miss. As stated above Mayor Menino will be there as a guest speaker, there will also be a few small presentations as well as a networking mixer. The City of Boston will also be on-hand to provide information for any developers and app publishers who want to plug into back-end APIs for citizen connectivity.
