According to an article in the Boston Globe this morning, private luxury online sales company Rue La La is planning to announce the launch of Rue Boston. Rue Boston, which is an extension of their core site will sell local goods to local Rue La La members.

This week has been all about hyper-local deals, from our recent article on location based discounts to AOL’s new launch of Wow.com and now Rue Boston.

South Boston based Rue La La, which is similar to a department store, buys overstocked items from luxury brands and sells them at a discount to it’s private community members. New members must be invited by a current member, and they currently have 2.6 million members.

Rue local is planning to expand to other major cities across the U.S. in 2011, but it starting with its hometown Boston. “We wanted to start in Boston because it really is our hometown,’’ said Mark McWeeny, the president of Rue Local. “We are curating the best restaurants, salons, events from around Boston.” Rue Boston members will receive an email at 8am with a 24 hour daily deal which will include deals from local restaurants, salons, retailers, and bars.

Today’s deal featured The Butcher Shop restaurant and wine bar in the South End — and it sold out in about an hour from when the email hit Bostonians inboxes this morning. Rue La La will be taking over the restaurant for a private dinner, with a four-course tasting menu and wine pairing.

This move from Rue La La will level the landscape with competitors like Gilt Groupe, who are also doing local deals, and Groupon the leader in local daily deals. Focusing on a specific niche will certainly be a hurdle for Rue La La, but hopefully their dedicated community members will drive this city expansion.
