Is your New Year’s resolution to shed some lb’s in 2011? If so, you’re in luck.

Boston-based FitnessKeeper Inc., the leading provider of mobile fitness tracking applications is announcing FREE downloads of the RunKepper Pro app through the month of January. The pro version is normally priced at $9.99 and is available through the Apple app store and the Android market. RunKeeper is one of 7 Boston companies to make Apple’s list of the Top Apps of 2010.

“We know that many people look at the New Year as a good time to get started with or improve upon their fitness routines,” said Jason Jacobs, Founder and CEO of FitnessKeeper, Inc.. “In an effort to encourage more people to get off the couch, and as a show of appreciation to the RunKeeper community for their terrific support for the last two and a half years, we’re making the RunKeeper Pro app free to download, now through the end of January. Both current RunKeeper users and new users can download RunKeeper Pro for free for the entire month through the Apple iPhone App Store and the Android Market. We hope that this gives our users and their friends and loved ones some extra motivation to get out there and log their miles or kilometers!”

The RunKeeper pro version includes:

  • Analytics: The RunKeeper Pro mobile app integrates with the online resources at www.RunKeeper.com to provide comprehensive fitness analytics.
  • Customizable Audio Cues: Improve your workouts with customizable audio cues during your activity for time,  distance, pace, and speed. Audio cues provide helpful coaching, letting  you know exactly when it’s time to change intervals.
  • Advanced Coaching: RunKeeper Pro’s advanced coaching features allow users to create their own interval workouts or set a target pace for an activity. View split or interval times during an activity and track performance to help improve training.
  • Improved FitnessClass Experience: With audio cues coaching users every step of the way, and the ability to  view a list of interval and split times during an activity, it’s like  training with a personal coach!

In an email to BostInno this morning, RunKeeper co-founder Michael Sheeley told me that “this is for our users who have been so great to us, we owe it to them.”

This is an awesome example of user engagement and putting your trusted users first. RunKeeper has seen tremendous growth over the last year and has organically grown a die hard fanbase. Since 2009, they have counted over 2.8 million RunKeeper downloads, and with this promotion, I would imagine that number will jump quite a bit.
