Last Week, RunKeeper announced a New Year’s promotion to give-away the Pro version of their application for the entire month of January. BostInno, of course was the first to publish such announcement, but throughout the day other top Media pubs followed suit including Mashable, AllThingsD, Lifehacker, VentureBeat.

Over the last four days we have had a blast watching the success of this promotion. The app has jumped from over 200 to the fifth ranked free app in the entire iPhone app store. The app currently sits at #28.

So what does it take to make this kind of jump? Here are a few download numbers from RunKeeper Pro: on December 30th the day of the promo announcement, they saw over 171,000 downloads on the iPhone, and in the last four days there have been over a million downloads of the RunKeeper Pro app. Successful promo? I think so.
