Enterprise mobility provider, Apperian, has just raised a whopping $9.5 million in funding from some elite big name VC firms. Participating in this round are North Bridge Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers’ (KPCB) iFund, CommonAngels and LaunchCapital. Another Boston based startup raising money from some West Coast VC firms (big fan of this trend). Apperian had previously raised just under $2 million in funding from CommonAngels and LaunchCapital.

Mobile devices are taking the enterprise by storm and companies are in dire need for an easy, cost effective way to create and deploy mobile applications. Apperian’s EASE cloud platform is the first to allow businesses to create, deploy, and manage applications for Apple iOS-powered devices, and in the near future Android.

“Enterprise developers need to get in front of the huge demand for rich mobile apps that will allow users to take full advantage of device capabilities to make enterprise data smarter. By partnering with three of the top venture firms in the industry, we will be able to invest in growing our developer community and accelerate the release of our app templates and libraries,” said David Patrick, Apperian CEO.

EASE provides enterprise developers with the ability to create secure apps that can be distributed, updated, and managed with the control needed in larger organizations. Applying a SaaS model to enterprise mobile app development reduces the corporations needs for significant in-house development costs and ongoing support resources. It also enables companies who previously outsource mobile development an easy to use secure platform to bring the development in-house.

“The unprecedented speed of tablet and smartphone adoption in business has opened an enormous opportunity for solutions that make it easy to create, deploy and manage enterprise mobile applications,” said Michael Skok, partner at North Bridge Venture Partners. “Apperian’s deep mobile experience has made it the first company to not only recognize this need, but deliver on it with the EASE enterprise scalable cloud architecture. As a result, the company has already won over major corporations. We’re delighted to be funding them to invest in building their developer community and partners programs, which are already generating significant interest.”

Apperian has developed apps for Clinique, Newsday, RueLaLa, and others
