Yesterday, Facebook purchased Instagram for an incredulous $1 billion, brushing aside the fact that the photo sharing app had recently earned $50 million in funding based on a $500 million valuation by Sequoia, Thrive Capital, Greylock, and Benchmark.

$1 billion is a whole lot of money to spend on something that the rest downloaded for a whopping…nothing, but it got us thinking. What else could Facebook have bought with all that cash?
