Curt Schilling’s video game company, 38 Studios, was initially lured to Rhode Island from Maynard when the state promised a $75 million loan guarantee. The idea was that the former Red Sox pitcher could bring high paying jobs to the state in a growing industry. Unfortunately for the state, its taxpayers and the 379 company employees that were laid off yesterday, that vision was ultimately a pipe dream. It’s sad that layoffs and unemployment is so commonplace in the American landscape, but we persevere. Always have. Why not persevere with a little schadenfreude?
