Though the Samsung Galaxy S4 is scheduled for a February release, Samsung loyalists may be getting an early Christmas present. A report by UnwiredView suggests that Samsung’s latest creation, the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini, will be released on October 11.

In comparison to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Mini will not deviate much from the norm except in terms of size and computing power. the S III boasts a 4.8-inch screen while the Mini will likely come equipped with a simple 480 x 800 4-inch display, a dual-core processor, and a 5 megapixel rear camera. Surely, it will run on Android’s latest 4.1 operating system, the Jelly Bean OS.

The Korean-based tech giant lover of the “Galaxy” moniker (see bottom picture) has begun sending out invitations for an event in held in Frankfurt, Germany on October 11 at a status-quo Samsung Mobile retail store. The headline roughly translates to “Something small can be so great.” Though there’s no specific mention of a Mini smartphone, the center “S” suggests an S-series smartphone while the headline suggests lack of size.

Similarly, international rival Apple looks to be releasing something mini in the near future, the iPad Mini. Yesterday, my colleague Greg Gomer reported that Apple looks to be sending out invitations on October 10 for an event on October 17, along with leaked photos of Apple’s new tablet.

The two company’s respective tech gadgets look to add fuel to an already blazing rivalry. Once thought to be rival-collaborators, like Microsoft and Google or John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the relationship between the two has been sour as of late, resulting in numerous lawsuits and injunctions with billion of dollars hanging in the balance. Both companies possess a substantial stake in the smartphone and tablet markets, though their competition can only mean smarter and faster technology for us users.

Let us know you think about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III Mini. Will it compete with other mini devices out there? Can Samsung keep up with Apple or vice-versa? Are they diluting the Galaxy brand? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
