The Samsung Galaxy S4 release date is under a month away, and the company has today released a “teaser” video in preparation for the launch. Sadly, the video shows us pretty much nothing about the phone’s specs in advance of the March 14 release event in New York. But while the teaser may be coming up short, a report by The New York Times provides a fascinating detail about the Galaxy S4: it will feature eye scrolling.

More on that in a minute. Here’s the Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-release teaser video:

It’s a pretty terrible ad if you ask me. Not only doesn’t it say anything about the device, it hardly brands the device as all that cool. Some little kid is trying to hide it from his friends? Don’t care.

So on to the cool stuff. From The New York Times:

The phone will track a user’s eyes to determine where to scroll, said a Samsung employee who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media. For example, when users read articles and their eyes reach the bottom of the page, the software will automatically scroll down to reveal the next paragraphs of text.

As The Times notes, there’s already a camera on the SIII that watches users as they interact with the device. And Samsung has filed for an eye-scrolling patent.

Epic privacy concerns aside, this kind of functionality could be pretty cool. Imagine holding your phone with one hand, and manipulating it with your eyes, while your other hand does something else. (This use case is more powerful for tablets, which can be hard to manipulate with just one hand.)

We’ll keep you posted on all things Galaxy S4 between now and March 14, be it leaks, rumors, new videos, or anything else.
