We came. We saw. We celebrated. St. Patrick’s Day 2013 went down with a bang in Boston, particularly in Southie. Thousands upon thousands of people gathered, donning their green gear and braving the chilly temperatures to watch the 112th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston. Despite the brisk air, the sun was shining and the parade (well, technically two parades) went off without a hitch on Sunday afternoon. To relive the magic of the day, check out photos from Boston’s 2013 St. Patrick’s Day celebrations below.

St. Patrick’s Day in Boston: Photos

According to preliminary Boston Police Department numbers, as of 6:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, 336 people were cited for drinking in public at the parade on Sunday, and 26 people were arrested at the parade, most of them for disorderly conduct. We will continue to update these numbers as the Boston Police Department shares them.

These 2013 parade arrest numbers represent a huge increase from last year’s parade records. In 2012, officers  issued 244 citations for drinking in public during the parade and made eight arrests for accounts of disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

(Which means no one listened to my rules for how to behave yourselves during St. Paddy’s Day. Tisk, tisk, Boston!)

Even for those who didn’t draw police attention to themselves over the weekend, it doesn’t mean their St. Paddy’s was a calm one. If Twitter is any indication, Boston got very, very drunk to celebrate the legacy of St. Patrick, wearing as much green as possible, crowding into bars and letting the green beer, Jameson and Baileys flow.

And, unfortunately, we’re all inevitably paying for it this Monday morning. Personally, I’d like to start a petition to make the annual Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade on a Saturday. That way, we can all spend Sunday — rather than Monday — sipping Gatorade and recovering. Who’s with me?
