Though nothing has been confirmed about an upcoming launch of Nokia’s Lumia 928 smartphone, supposedly ready to launch by the end of May, many interesting occurrences suggest that it may be imminent. Windows Phone fan site WMPoweruser has been perpetuating the rumors that 3rd party Lumia accessories have begun to surface and that Instagram will make its Windows debut on Nokia’s flagship smartphone. Considering that Verizon is poised to make some big announcements at the CTIA trade show on May 22 and that CEO Stephen Elop told his investors during an earnings conference call that “the next hero move in the U.S. kicks off a season of new product introductions,” I think it’s probably safe to think that the Lumia 928 will make its debut then.

A number of 3rd party vendors are already soliciting their Nokia Lumia 928 accessories online. According to WMPoweruser, “Luxmo have a protector case is available for $1.19, touted to be a perfect fit;’ Atom has the Nokia Lumia 928 Premium Accessory Kit, Black Hard Cover Case,  ATOM LED Keychain Light, Screen Protector, and Micro USB Car Charger; and ApexGear has a rubberized hard cover case in black.”

Also intriguing is the possible appearance of Instagram on the latest Nokia device. This may be snug fit for Instagram, the social sharing photo app owned by Facebook, as the Lumia 928’s predecessor (the 920) made its bones by integrating updated PureView technology for snapping pics made possible by low-light photography technology.

As of now, potential specs for the Lumia 928 are fairly limited. Through leaked photos and rumors from inside sources, it appears as though the Lunia 928 could be equipped with a dual-core 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of Ram, 32GB of NAND flash memory, wireless charging, and a 4.5 inch display that has a resolution of 1280 x 768. The Lumia 928 will also likely run on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS.

In terms of comparisons to other worthy adversaries, the Lumia 928 looks as if it could hold its own. Rival handsets like the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S series may possess a larger market share than that of Nokia’s devices, but Nokia’s photo technology seems to edge out its competitors. Photo sharing is an ever-growing component to the phenomenon that is social media so its probably safe to think that Nokia is looking to corner that market while Apple and Samsung battle it out over the rest.
