LG will be rolling out a next-level version of its Optimus G cornerstone smartphone, the LG Optimus G Pro. The G Pro will make its U.S. debut on May 10 with pre-orders available to the general public on May 3 and will be carried by AT&T. Back in April, LG confirmed that they would make an announcement regarding the Optimus G Pro for today.

The G Pro will sport a respectable 5.5-inch 1920×1080 HD display, which equates to a pixel density of about 400 ppi. Like other rival smartphone announcement this week, the G Pro will carry hefty a 13 mp HD rear-facing camera, though LG’s comes  with audio zoom for enhanced sound quality during video capture. A front-facing camera is also included and looks to be 2.1 mp.

The interior of the G Pro is certainly just as, if not more, impressive than other high-end handsets out there. It will be run on a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor powered by a 3,140 mAh Battery. It allows for 32GB of storage, with support for an additional 64, and 2GB of RAM allows for multitasking and tech plenty of fun. The G Pro will operate on Android’s 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.

Though it might not carry the same kind of clout as Apple’s iPhone 5 or Samsung’s Galaxy S4, the G Pro looks like it could hang with the top dogs. As noted by TechCrunch, “The G also provided the basic groundwork for Google’s Nexus 4 Android reference device, which reached 1 million in handset sales in February, according to an estimate based on serial numbers calculated by Nexus 4 owners.”

Definitely a big upgrade here for LG users, though I doubt many Apple or Samsung faithful will make the switch. Either way, this is a respectable device carrying more than capable technology so I’m sure LG will enjoy its success.

As for the all important price, AT&T is asking for $199.99 and your ink on a  two-year contract.
