Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO) will be put to the test this Saturday May 4 in an attempt to defend his WBC Welterweight title against challenger Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO). The Mayweather vs Guererro fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV and will be broadcasted on Showtime PPV. This is the first fight that “Money” Mayweather will participate in that’s not to be aired on HBO.

Mayweather is known for being brash and outspoken to the annoyance of many people. In a press conference yesterday, the defending champ said candidly “The only thing I can do is to go out there and continue to rack up victories.” Let’s see you put your money where your mouth is, Floyd.

Guerrero countered by intending to perform a “home invasion” on Saturaday (Vegas is Mayweather’s home) but things also took a more personal, below-the-belt turn. Guererro’s father took to the podium to slight Mayweather, repeatedly calling him a wife beater as Mayweather sat on stage and looked on. Surprisingly, Mayweather didn’t counter the slander and simply noted that he served his time and he’s now older and wiser.

Last summer, Mayweather served an 87-day sentence for domestic abuse for repeatedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the back of the head but was released after two months.

“The Ghost” Guerrero is six years younger than Mayweather and promises to break the champ’s undefeated streak. If Mayweather does win, he could easily be placed in the upper-echelon of greatest welterweight fighters of all time, if people don’t consider him so already.

The match will be 12 rounds in length, unless ended before, and the bell will ring at 9pm. Preceding the welterweight title match is the featherweight title match between Daniel Ponce De Leon (44-4, 35 KOs) vs. Abner Mares (25-0-1, 13 KOs).
