Apple gave users another reason to buy its desktop iMac today by offering more storage options for its desktop computer. Buyers now have the choice to purchase an additional 256GB or 512GB of flash storage for the additional cost of $300 and $600, respectively.

According to MacRumors, the all-Apple rumor mill website,

“Previously, the 21.5-inch iMac had not been available with dedicated flash storage options, only offering the standard 1 TB traditional hard drive and a $250 Fusion Drive option. Apple’s Fusion Drive marries a 128 GB flash drive with a 1 TB traditional hard drive to seamlessly provide fast access to most-used files while also offering relatively cheap mass storage for the remainder of the user’s storage needs”

As for the 27-inch model “Apple did previously offer an all-flash storage solution, but only as a 768 GB drive carrying a $900 upgrade fee.The 27-inch iMac is also available with 1 TB and 3 TB.”

I like how Apple presents the extra storage as a way for buyers to further customize their prized computer, as it gives the user more of a feeling of control when purchasing and using. But both options come with a hefty price tag for an immobile device in a mobilized world. Comments on MacRumor’s article indicate the same, that Apple is overpricing its new storage options to the amusement and chagrin of its loyalists.

The thing about Apple, though, is that because each and every one of their devices are so popular amongst, well, everybody from the iPod to the iMac is that they have a built-in fan base. This allows them to essentially charge any price for any product they wish, within some kind of reason of course.

Let’s hear from the iMac users out there. How well do you enjoy your desktop? Does it run just as smoothly as a mobile device, if not better? Would you be more willing to buy the iMac now that it has additional storage options that you would have before? Leave us all of your thoughts in the comments section below.
