Now that the Nokia Lumia 928 has been confirmed, the Finnish telecommunications company has posted new footage taken with the Lumia’s highly-touted PureView Carl Zeiss camera and takes a few shots at its rival competitors in the process.

The video footage was taken while riding a New York roller coaster using the PureView 8.7mp Carl Zeiss optic and optical image stabilization camera. But to raise the stakes a bit, Nokia challenges the “leading smartphones” Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5. The camera rolls and multiple on-the-move snapshots are taken, all of which produce a higher-quality image than the rival devices.

Nokia’s website posted, along with the video, a little anticipatory message about the Lumia 928 saying “Stay tuned for updates about the newest Nokia Lumia” suggesting that more comparison footage, or cold hard specs will be released within the near future.

At the end of April I reported that the Lumia 928 will likely carry Instagram, a popular photo sharing app that would help solidify the Lumia 928’s already budding reputation of being the smartphone with the premier imaging technology on the market today.

As for the rest of the Lumia 928, very little else has been reported in a likely attempt by Nokia to keep all of the focus on the PureView camera. But courtesy of leak twitter handle extraordinaire @evleaks, it seems as though the Lumia 928 could carry a dual-core 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of Ram, 32GB of NAND flash memory, wireless charging, and a 4.5 inch display that has a resolution of 1280 x 768. The Lumia 928 will also likely run on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS.

If those specs are in the ballpark, the Lumia 928 will make its bones in imaging technology rather than fancy user interfaces or lightning-fast operating systems. Those respective markets are becoming increasingly diluted as lower-end telecom manufacturers begin to catch up with the big-timers, prompting the search for an untapped market which appears to be crystal-clear camera technology.

As Nokia continues to slowly, almost painfully, release details about its flagship device we’ll be sure to keep you updated. Nokia does, however, have an event scheduled for next week May 14 in London where the Lumia 928 is anticipated to make its debut.
