The only thing I could think of when seeing The World’s End teaser trailer was, this is The Hangover meets Shaun of the Dead. Simon Pegg co-wrote this fun-filled film and from the trailer alone it looks like he used plenty of that patented, parched Brit wit that we all love so much in the likes of Shaun and Hot Fuzz.

The plot line looks to put a new spin on “bar crawl” as it centers around a group of friends who attempt twelve pubs and twelve pints wrapping up at the aptly named The World’s End drinkery. Of course the boys can’t finish their twelve beers, an unusual feat for our brethren across the pond, so naturally they team up for a World’s End reunion some twenty years later in an attempt to finish what they started.

The group is in for a surprise, though, when the local townsfolk aren’t quite what they appear to be on the surface. I’ll let you put the pieces together on this one.

This high-budget, special effect-laden comedy is reminiscent of The Watch (starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill) in another installment of a new breed of comedy that fuses over-the-top action with a comedic screenplay and timely delivery.

The World’s End, expected to hit theaters in the U.S. on August 23, boasts a comical cast of Pegg, Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), Nick Frost, and Paddy Considine. Co-writer Edgar Wright, who’s teamed up with Pegg on multiple occasions, is at the helm directing.

Now that you’ve watched the trailer, let’s hear what you have to say. Who here is looking forward to this witty take on the alien invasion genre? Who here doesn’t think the film looks quite up to snuff? Either way, do as the film says and “prepare to get annihilated.”
