As Nokia continues to prepare for its “Zoom. Reinvented” event scheduled for Thursday, more Lumia 1020 leaked photos and specs continue to make their way throughout the internet. Just yesterday Windows Phone VP Joe Belfiore uploaded snapshots to his Flickr account with the native device clearly labeled Nokia Lumia 1020. Is it a coincidence that this occurred just days before Nokia’s press event? I think not. But following up that “accident” today are more leaked specs of the Lumia 1020.

In what appears to be an attempted powerplay by Nokia to corner the smartphone photo technology market, Nokia will launch probably launch the Lumia 1020 in the same fashion as preceding devices. With the anteceding Lumia 925 and Lumia 928, Nokia promoted its PureView technology and Carl Zeiss lenses relentlessly, openly bashing the photographic capabilities of the ever-popular Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4. However, that kind of guerrilla marketing may be warranted as the Lumia’s 41-megapixel rear-camera is unprecedented in the smartphone game.

When comparing megapixel cameras, Lumia’s supposed 41 is unmatched. Currently, the iPhone 5 only sports an 8MP cam while the GS4 boasts a 13MP cam, both respectable when compared to other gadgets but not the Lumia 1020. Even rumors of the next-gen iPhone 5S, which suggest an updated 12MP camera, don’t come close.

Check out the the camera module inside the Nokia Lumia 925:

The Independent expects the Lumia 1020’s shooter to be accompanied by “xenon flash, a massive f2.2 aperture, and an ‘oversampling’ functionality similar to the ‘UltraPixel’ lens on the HTC One’s camera.” The xenon flash would burgeon the 1020’s capabilities in low-light situations while the oversampling functionality would help reduce noise, bolster sharpness, and increase color accuracy.

As for the technical aspects, rumors point towards an OLED display with 768 x 1280 resolution, 32GB of internal storage with no support for microSD, and a polycarbonate body with the option of a wireless charging backplate. It will also likely come with NFC functionality and 2 solid GB of RAM. The mobile operating system will be Windows 8 until Microsoft releases 8.1

The Lumia 1020 doesn’t appear to be outfitted with the same bells and whistles of the Galaxy S4 and won’t possess the same user-friendliness and brand awareness of the iPhone 5 but it could go unchallenged in terms of amateur photography. For those who have Apple, Samsung, or Nokia devices, let’s hear what you have to say. Which device do you think is the best overall? Will the Lumia 1020 live up to its hype?
