The impending charges against Whitey Bulger and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have rendered images of grief throughout the city of Boston, and today, both of the accused are set to face their offenses on the fifth floor of the Moakley Federal Courthouse.

Bulger, whose ongoing trial recently sparked an outburst from the infamous Southie mobster, will be joined by the Boston Marathon bombing suspect at the courthouse for Tsarnaev’s first public appearance since the events of the Marathon and the manhunt that ensued later in the week. Bulger’s trial has been a spectacle throughout the city over the past few weeks, but Tsarnaev is likely to steal the show today as memories of this year’s Marathon — as well as the Boston Strong sentiments that followed the tragedy — still weigh heavy on the minds of many Bostonians.

According to the Boston Herald, victims of the bombing have been formally notified of Tsarnaev’s arraignment, which begins today at 3:30 p.m. before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler. Seats have been reserved for the hundreds of victims who wish to attend the hearing.

Security outside of the courthouse has been ramped up today in anticipation of the adjacent trials. Police have lined up metal barriers around the building, which is also being patrolled by uniformed officers with dogs. Reuters reports well over a dozen police cars and trucks on the scene, as well as a Boston Police boat within close range of the entrance through which the accused will enter the building.
