Though the iPad mini’s release date is this fall, leaked specs and photos seem to emerge almost daily. The latest photos display the next-generation iPad mini’s anodized aluminum shell with an embedded Apple logo that moonlights as an antenna window due to the fact that the aluminum plate isn’t radio transparent.

These snapshots, courtesy of Apple Insider via Fanatic Fone, are questionable however. While they appear to sport Apple’s signature aluminum shell, there is no iPad branding in writing nor any FCC and various regulation certifications printed either. It is noted, though, that “the internal and external design appears to be unchanged from the first-generation model, with support structures for a rear-facing camera, dock connector, speakers and physical power and volume buttons.”

The iPad mini has been something of a disconcerting topic for Apple as of late. Both the mini and flagship iPad with Retina display are due for refreshes but the only question seems to be when. Apple has been reportedly attempting to include a Retina display in the next-gen mini but due to complications could be releasing two iPad mini versions in the near future, one with simple though effective upgrades this fall and the other with the Retina display in 2014 the earliest.

Conflicting reports, the most recent of which was just this week, cite Apple teaming up with Samsung to ship an iPad mini with Retina display by Q4 of this year.

The Wall Street Journal wrote  that “component makers were told Apple had originally planned to use displays from Sharp and LG Display, but added Samsung to the supplier list to ensure adequate supply of the the alleged next-gen tablet.”

Other specs are still under lock and key at this point but after the debut of iOS 7 at WWDC earlier this year, we can expect the newest version of Apple’s mobile operating system to be included with either tablet size.
