Mayor Joseph Maturo told NBC Connecticut that one of the two Cape-style homes struck by the crash was vacant at the time of the incident, but he was not sure about the other.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the multi-engine propeller-driven aircraft flew out of Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and crashed as it approached the Tweed New Haven Airport at 11:25 a.m. Friday. Due to the proximity of the airport, neighbors and those residing close by are acclimated to the sights and sounds of low-flying planes.
