Despite the iPhone 5S’s release date nearing so quickly, very little is known in terms of actual launch date, specs, or price. A new report though confirms an old rumor, that Apple will be including a fingerprint sensor in its upcoming next-gen flagship. Courtesy of a familiar and credible source, the report pegs the fingerprint sensor to be housed within the new convex home button.

Apple Insider recently pulled a research note from perpetual predictor Ming Chi Kuo of KGI Securities that says Apple’s signature concave home button will be reversed to convex in order to properly carry the recognition technology without compromising any internal storage space.

Supposedly too, another added bonus to opting for the home button for the sensor’s location is that “consumers are less likely to be confused as to where to place their finger for scanning” though the way it will now protrude due to the convex design adds risk of being scratched while bouncing around in the user’s pocket. Hopefully the sapphire layer acts as a formidable defense to this.

Rumors for a fingerprint sensing spec included in the iPhone 5S have been swirling for sometime now but only recently was confirmed thanks to an Apple developer who found a biometrics folder containing information for the new technology.

It seems the entire sensor concept almost didn’t come into fruition as conflicting reports dating back to mid-July teased at Apple ramping up production on the new handset at the same time that reports were being published insisting that Apple’s first shipment of its 5S brand would be constrained due to undisclosed issues in incorporating the technology in the new gadget.

Luckily The KGI Securities analyst has a penchant for accurately forecasting, within reason, when Apple will release its devices and what they’ll contain underneath the hood.

Look for the iPhone 5S release and launch dates to be announced soon, as well as full specs and price, as many are expecting the smartphone to debut sometime in September.
