UPDATE: Judge says Alemany will be held WITHOUT BAIL. Defense lawyer says Alemany tried to kill himself last night – @NancyChenNews

Edwin Alemany is back in court today facing an arraignment for the murder of Amy Lord. Alemany was arraigned yesterday on separate assault charges in South Boston District Court for the brutal beating of two women back in 2012, to which he plead not guilty. Today he will be in West Roxbury District Court where he’s likewise expected to plead not guilty to first-degree murder in the severe stabbing of the 24-year old Lord. He is being held on $3 million bail.

Prior to his arraignment, Alemany, 28, had been held at Bridgewater State Hospital for a 20-day psychological evaluation after it came to light that he may have suffered from mental health issues in the past, including having made suicidal threats and having been prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-schizophrenia medication in the past, according to his attorney.

He’s the primary suspect in murder of Amy Lord, a native of Wilbraham, MA, after her untimely death occurred within the same 24-hour time period as one of Alemany’s other assualt victims. Around 5 a.m. on Tuesday July 23rd, Lord was allegedly kidnapped in South Boston on her way to the gym, after which her bank account was accessed from five different ATMs in the area. She was then allegedly stabbed to death, and her body was found later on Tuesday afternoon in Hyde Park’s Stony Brook Reservation.

Upon conducting an investigation into the murder, Boston Police found that former detective Jerome Hall-Brewster did not follow up with Alemany regarding the 2012 autumn attacks along with taking series of other missteps, resulting in his demotion from detective by Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.

Amy Lord graduated from Bentley University in 2011 and worked at Genuine Interactive, a creative agency in Boston before her untimely passing.

Yesterday’s arraignment took place at around 10 a.m. ET and today’s proceedings are likely to follow suit.
