You know what Boston needs? A new fro-yo shop. Lucky for us, there’s another one opening up today in Downtown Crossing called FroZenYo (pronounced fro-ZEN-yo; points for a hint of creativity), which has headed north from its D.C. hometown. Even luckier for us, they’re giving out free fro-yo in honor of their first day in business.

The store will be taking over the Old Corner Bookstore place at 277 Washington Street in DTX, and from 2 to 4 p.m. today, there will be free treats. What better way to celebrate Friday than with free fro-yo? And it just got better: Mayor Menino will be there, celebrating the opening with a ribbon cutting at 2:30 p.m. Clearly, this isn’t your average fro-yo store.

FroZenYo’s website also boasts a wide variety of interesting flavors, like angel food cake, maple bacon donut, and strawberry lemonade. There’s also the old standbys: tart, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, which you can serve yourself before adding on toppings. The franchise also features their own line of coffee called Zombie Coffee, as well as breakfast goods, so if you just can’t wait to get to the fro-yo store till after dinner, you now have a reason to head there in the AM, too. The store hours will be from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday.
