The new iPhone 5S and low-cost iPhone 5C are to launch in Japan on September 20, possibly a sign of things to come on U.S. soil. Tech pundits are predicting a September 10 release date domestically which would add to the likelihood of a similar circa September 20 consumer availability.

Apple is renowned for its compulsive habits in unveiling products in the same style, at the same venue, during the same time of year annually. As Mac Rumors reminds us, “Apple introduced the iPhone 5 at a media event on September 12, with the first round of launches taking place on September 21 in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.” So with a Japanese launch on September 20, it seems logical to think that a U.S. launch at the same time is forthcoming.

In typical Apple fashion, though, they have yet to officially announce or confirm a launch on the other side of the world. The tip comes from CNET via Japanese tech blog Nikkei which pegs the date and September 10 press event in San Francisco, though fails to mention from where it came across the information or from whom.

The report continues with some information that we’ve already learned, such as the inauguration of a new gold or champagne colored iPhone 5S.

The new iPhone 5S is expected to boast up to 128GB of internal storage along with a new 64-bit A7 processing chip. This is certainly a step up from the A6 which produces less wireless bandwidth. The iPhone 5S will also carry a 4-inch IGZO display, a 12MP rear-facing camera, dual-LED flash with ƒ/2.0 lens, and a convex home button used to house an authentication fingerprint sensor. But a new article today thinks the home button will remain concave so be weary. Keep an eye out for 16Gb and 32GB variants and, of course, iOS 7 and all of the features it has to offer.

The iPhone 5C will be similar in size and specs — with a 4-inch display, upgraded camera, and possible inclusion of the aforementioned fingerprint sensor — but is though to have a scaled-back iOS 7 to account for its budget-friendliness. It will also sport a plastic shell in a neon spectrum of colors instead of Apple’s signature anodized aluminum casing.
