With the NFL and College Football starting back up, you may be asked to host a crowd-pleasing tailgating party at your home. Don’t freak out just yet – or, maybe you should. While most people will surely BYOB, the entertainment is yours to provide. After buying the condiments, the hamburgers and craft beer (that you surreptitiously hide for yourself), it’s time to make a very important decision about one particular game day dilemma: Which tailgating outdoor activity do you set up for your guests?

Do you set up the broseph bean-bag toss known as Baggo, commonly referred to in college as “Cornhole,” or the equally frat-tastic Ladder Toss? Set up both, and you run the risk of turning your backyard into an animal house. No thank ya.

As the host or a hostess in the hot seat – which should you choose? Let’s find out with This vs. That.

Baggo (Cornhole/Bags/ Whatever the heck it’s called)

Pros: Baggo is an adult bean bag toss game that involves throwing the bean bag at a raised platform with a hole. (But you knew that already.) Obviously, it only takes one hand to throw the bean bag, leaving an open hand for your beer. How convenient. Baggo is also ideal for backyard BBQ’s and very easy to play no matter how tipsy you get. The game can be played on sidewalks, backyards, and anywhere with open space. Four people is typically the maximum number of players and it’s easy to rotate people in and out.

Cons: Let’s start with… bean bags. No, really – those suckers break. And when they do, you have to steal more bean bags from neighborhood children (not okay). Also, unless you make your own DIY cornhole game set (a very good move if you’re prepared to commit), they can run a tad pricey. Plus, wood isn’t always inclement weather-friendly. This game is definitely intended to be played outdoors. And carrying that Baggo set of wooden planks back and forth could be a pain. Don’t count on bringing these on your next vacation.

Ladder Toss

Pros: Ladder toss is that game where you throw two balls connected by a string (or “bola”) at a three rung ladder. The good news is that Ladder toss sets are portable – meaning you can take them apart and set them up wherever you’d like, such as tailgates and vacations. Since you can play this game in multiple places, it’s likely you’ll get more bang for your buck. And speaking of bucks, a Ladder Toss game set is typically less expensive than a Baggo set. Also, people like Martha Stewart can’t play Ladder Toss… so, that’s probably a good thing.

Cons: This game is a minor pain to set up. Not to mention, time spent away from the TV, the grill and your Harpoon Beer. The ladders can fall apart easily if they aren’t properly anchored into the ground. And sure, you can take it everywhere but do you really want to? There will be a lot of bolas flying in every direction at your tailgate. Wouldn’t want to knock that drink out of your hand, or even hit you square in the face – ow.

Winner: Ladder Toss

Ok, besides the fact that we all know games like beer pong and flip cup reign supreme, I’m going to give this one to Ladder Toss. In actuality, I tend to be a fan of Baggo (college), but as an adult, Ladder Toss makes more sense. Since Ladder Toss is portable, you’ll get more use out of it. You don’t have to deal with those small white beans breaking all over your deck or lawn. You also don’t have to search for more bean bags (thank goodness). And for my money, a cheap Ladder Ball set trumps the Baggo equivalent any day.
