Green Line riders have a reason to celebrate today.

The MBTA is bringing electronic message boards to Green Line stops, which will provide “Next Train” information for riders, according to a Boston magazine report.

A press release from the T stated:

“At Kenmore Station, the MBTA is bringing new technology to the 100-yeard old Green Line. For the first time on the Green Line, electronic message boards will provide ‘Next Train’ information.”

Its unclear how many message boards will be used, or if they will be used at both above ground and indoor stations, Boston magazine reports.

According to the report, the design of the “Next Train” electronic message boards, which weren’t immediately revealed, will be made public during Thursday’s unveiling ceremony. Where the message boards will be, remains unclear. “Outdoor Green Line stops were not equipped” for similar devices when they were installed along the Red, Blue, and Orange lines.

In January, Boston magazine continues, officials said the T would be able to “activate countdown clocks for underground Green Line stations and stations along the D branch where there are existing, overhead electronic message board signs,” to collaborate with its mobile apps.

The Celtics will team up with the MBTA to mark the technological advancement, Boston magazine reports. First Round pick, Kelly Olynyk, will ride the T today with Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary Richard Davey — from Kenmore to North Station — following the debut of “Next Train” boards.

In June, 51 of 53 total countdown clocks were installed by the MBTA at various stations around the system, Boston magazine notes. Those signs display the estimated arrival time and destination of approaching trains, using “LED lights.” Beverly Scott, MBTA General Manager, said in June that customers loved the system.

The MBTA program began in August of 2012, at South Station, according to Boston magazine.
