The 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards aired last night and, in case you missed it (or even if you didn’t), here are our top five most ridiculous moments from the festivities.
(1) Amy Poehler and Tina Fey Telling Neil Patrick Harris to Twerk
Neil Patrick Harris’ opening monologue included many interruptions, mainly by past Emmy hosts, but the most ridiculous interruption was by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The comedic duo hosted the Golden Globes Awards together earlier this year, and had some pointers for Harris, one of which was twerking. Watch Harris’ opening monologue here:
(2) Elton John Channeling Liberace
Sir Elton John sang a song last night that he wrote in honor of Liberace. Sir Elton, sporting a bedazzled blue blazer with a matching blue shirt and blue sunglasses, claimed that the late Liberace had an “impact on the musical world, and my dress sense, of course.” So to honor the late musician, Sir Elton played a song that no one has ever heard of, and probably will never hear again.
(3) Lena Dunham’s Billowing Dress
Lena Dunham, along with Girls co-star Zosia Mamet, was stamped one of the worst dressed attendees of last night’s Emmys. Dunham is not exactly a fashion icon, but she generally makes up for the large amount of nudity and poor outfit choices of Girls character Hannah. Attempting to look pretty in Prada at the Emmy Awards, Dunham ended up looking like this cupcake… but not quite as toothsome.
(4) Kevin Spacey Swatting at the Camera
All Kevin Spacey wanted to do last night was watch the Emmys, but despite his satisfactory seating, he couldn’t even do that. Annoyed by the cameraman, Spacey swatted at the camera as if it were a fly, then promptly returned to just enjoying the show. His brief flare-up made for one of the most entertaining GIFs of the night.
(5) Merrit Wever’s Verbose (Or Lackthereof) Speech
While others’ speeches were getting cut short by the music, Merrit Wever was at a genuine loss for words when she won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. The Nurse Jackie star was overcome with surprise, and as a result, delivered the most abrupt speech of the night.
