Honor Flight veterans have stormed the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. despite a government shutdown as if they were storming the very beaches of Normandy. The WWII Memorial falls under federal jurisdiction, which during the first government shutdown since the mid-90s means it’s left penniless and unstaffed.

Not that it matters for this patriotic bunch, though. According to the Wall Street Journal, the vets are from “the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight” in Gulfport, MS.  The group, more of a large posse, consists of “More than seven dozen WWII veterans,” as noted by WLOX, and none of them seem to care about the barriers and signs barring any tourists from sightseeing.

Continued WLOX, “Many of the veterans said before leaving Gulfport that all the uncertainty surrounding the itinerary wasn’t going to spoil the trip.”
