Forget Friday night plans. The more important question is what are you doing tonight? It’s Thursday and you’ve put in a solid four days of work at the office. It may feel like summer outside but don’t let the warm sunshine fool you — It’s still fall, folks. And as such, tonight you should celebrate the unseasonably warm temps with a fall cocktail.

Maybe try shaking it up a little bit when you head to the North End or just shake it up yourself by creating the cocktail at home. And, since we’ve written about a few fall flavored cocktails already (i.e., the pumpkin and pear), may I suggest trying a Fig Martini?

The small, sweet and tasty fig is often forgotten about in the fall, usually making appearances only in the form of jam. But since it is prime fig season, I recommend taking advantage of the seasonal fruit in other ways as well. It’s time for Boston to get figgy with it (too much?) before the season is over. Here’s how:

Buy it:

Head to Prezza in the North End for their sweet and strong Black Fig Martini. With a heavy dose of black fig vodka, the cocktail is a real kick in the pants. Just like the fruit itself, the martini’s fig flavor isn’t overwhelmingly sweet, and strikes just the right balance between sweet and dry. But – warning – you may find yourself drinking the cocktail a little faster than expected (oops). The drink is also accompanied by blue cheese-stuffed dried plums (mm hmm). This fall drink is truly fig-elicious with the autumnal aroma emanating from your martini glass.

But if the North End is too far of a trek tonight…

Make It:

Make this cocktail right at home. These instructions from Prezza’s bartender should provide you with just the right amount of fall fig kick. So, get your shaker ready  — recipe is below.

Ingredients:

4.5 oz Black Fig Vodka

Blue cheese-stuffed dried plums

 Method:

1)       In a cocktail shaker, add ice and black fig vodka and shake.

2)      Strain into a martini glass.

3)      Garnish with blue cheese-stuffed dried plums.
