The 49th Head of the Charles Regatta returns to Boston this weekend, Oct. 19 and 20, meaning about 300,000 fans and spectators will line the banks of the Charles River to cheer on 9,000 athletes as they row their hardest, against the clock and each other. The two-day sporting event is a memorable event for our city, and has become the largest of its kind in the world. So large, in fact, that a special Head of the Charles map is necessary to make the most of it.

Over 60 events will take place over the weekend, as teams of four and five rowers, single rowers and double rowers work their way down the river, representing one of the participating colleges or organizations from the U.S. and abroad. If you’re looking for the most intense moments of competition, the Championship 4’s and the Championship 8’s, the last races of the weekend, draw the most attention.

If you’re just looking for a public restroom or course-side bar, though, our Head of the Charles map has you covered.

Whether you’ve been attending the regatta for years, or want to see what it’s all about for the first time, the Head of the Charles is a huge destination for Bostonians and observers from around the world.  So naturally, it’s bound to get crowded down by the river, as the crowds swoop in early to snag the best spectating spots that dot the river. If you’re in for a casual weekend enjoying the festivities, you’ll need a plan of attack to navigate the madness created by the dense crowds.

So BostInno intern Seline Jung and the rest of the staff put together a map that pinpoints all of the important places to know about the festivities: shuttle stops, public restrooms, university boathouses, and nearby spots to grab a drink or a bite to eat away from the masses.
