Following a series of clues in the form of tweets from Ellen Degeneres yesterday, Bostonians dying for a chance to see the Red Sox in the World Series flocked to Marsh Plaza at 5 p.m. to try and win tickets and/or a brief appearance on The Ellen Show.

After she teased a “surprise” for Boston over the weekend, yesterday, Ellen’s tweets let us know where to go to win tickets and then, what to do:

Easy enough. But there was more:

Over a thousand students and city folk took Ellen up on her challenge, and headed to the Commonwealth Avenue meeting spot on BU’s campus well before 5 p.m., decked out in at least some form of green and red attire. As with any time there’s a celebrity sighting or free stuff on the line, the green monsters hoping to win tickets had to wait to reap any sort of award. At 5:25, Ellen tweeted:

But, around 7 p.m., she captured the turnout of the contest, with a picture of some impressive makeshift monsters.

According to the Daily Free Press, the BU student newspaper, two BU seniors were the winners of the coveted tickets, but Ellen gave out more prizes along the way. Two more BU students were awarded $1,000 and one student, Karen Contador, will be flown out to LA to appear on the show.
