Cold weather getting you down? It’s never too early to make springtime plans! The CapeFLYER train, which offers weekend service from Boston to Cape Cod, will officially be supported by MassDOT for an annual seasonal rail service, Governor Deval Patrick announced on Tuesday.

After 25 years, the train resumed its services on Memorial Day and will now run annually from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. Next season, a stop in Wareham will open.

According to the MassDOT blog, ridership of 16,586 this past summer brought in over $290,000 in revenue. The CapeFLYER already experienced extended service into October due to its popular demand, and now transportation officials are looking into the possibility of year-round weekend service and additional stops within the Cape itself.

On top of getting that sought-after weekend getaway to the Cape, using the CapeFLYER allows access to ferries to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. For tourists, free trolleys explore downtown Hyannis.

A CapeFLYER trip is over two hours in duration with free Wi-Fi and bike storage. Round trip tickets from Boston will set customers back $35, but prices vary depending on location. Thanks to the MBTA’s mTicket app, you can avoid those pesky ticket vendors and make your weekend getaway plans on the fly.
