One sheriff believes that the response during the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings proves Boston is capable of hosting the Olympic Games.

According to a report by the Boston Herald, Suffolk Sheriff Steven Tompkins, a member of the committee in charge of evaluating the feasibility of hosting the Games in Boston, believes, from a security standpoint, our city is Olympics-ready.

“We had precedent set on a major catastrophe and we were able to pull through that,” Tompkins told the Herald.

Tompkins admitted that the goal, ultimately, is not to have tragedies like April 15 happen at all. “But the fact that it did, and the fact that we were able to rally our resources show that we can do it. We have the blueprint to work off of,” Tompkins told the Herald.

Tompkins was appointed by Governor Deval Patrick to evaluate public safety measures. Reportedly, Tompkins believes the ability of local law enforcement and federal agents to work together during the aftermath of the bombings has “shown we can pull together.”

Tompkins is one of eight committee members already selected to what will be an 11-member team. A source tells the Herald that “Patrick is poised to add Suffolk Construction CEO John Fish and Steve Freyer, who chaired the Boston Organizing Committee in the 1990s.” Additionally, House rep. Andrea Crupi is expected to be appointed by House Minority Leader Brad Jones as his director of local affairs.
