“A Day in the Life” is a series where we’ll profile a variety of residents to get an intimate glimpse into their day-to-day. These are your neighbors. Get to know them.

As a Boston beer consumer, you’re likely no stranger to the brew reviews found on BeerAdvocate, a global community of beer enthusiasts dedicated to sharing and supporting beer. But you may not realize that the organization was founded right here in Boston by the Alström brothers, Jason and Todd (above).

The brothers, who founded the online beer resource as well as a monthly beer magazine, have successfully grown their beer community, reaching a hefty 2.5 million unique visitors a month. And by all appearances via Twitter, it seems that the brothers are indeed living by the BeerAdvocate motto: “Respect beer.”

We spoke with one of the brothers, Jason Alström (above right), to get a sense of what his day-to-day (a.k.a every beer lover’s dream job) is truly like. Alström tells us that he got his start due to a general appreciation of beer. He began homebrewing, tasting and listening to other brewers. Here, he gives BostInno a glimpse into his daily routine.

Marian White: How do you spend most mornings?

Jason Alström: Replying to emails; my inbox is a beast that needs to be tamed daily. Searching for news and obviously reading the pulse on BeerAdvocate.com.

MW: What are the top priorities on your to-do list right now?

JA: Creating new beer festival concepts, keeping up with edits on BeerAdvocate.com, and reviewing beer.

MW: What is the worst part and the best part about your typical day?

JA: The worst part is handling the business side of BeerAdvocate, the usual mundane book keeping is a necessary evil right? The best part is knowing I’ll probably be tasting some pretty incredible beer at the end of the day.

MW: What is your favorite Boston beer right now?

JA: Both Trillium in Boston and Mystic from Chelsea are killing it these days, pretty much everything they brew is good, if not great.

MW: If you could impart one piece of advice to our readers, what would it be?

JA: Don’t be afraid of any beer out there, even if it has a crazy name or perhaps a style you might not understand yet.

MW: What would you do if you were suddenly granted a day off from work tomorrow?

JA: I’d travel to a brewery I have not visited yet.

MW: What’s one TV show you can’t live without right now?

JA: Boardwalk Empire. I find the whole Prohibition Era fascinating … a remembrance that we should never let that happen again.

MW: Is your life really as amazing as your Twitter feeds would lead us to believe?

JA: Amazing is a stretch – do I have fun tasting different beers on a regular basis? Yes. Though the traveling is amazing, pretty much every major city in the U.S. has a local beer culture.

MW: If you weren’t answering my questions, what would you be doing instead?

JA: Hacking away at my inbox & handling some social media.
