Mayor Marty Walsh filled another void earlier tonight, naming a former state representative interim director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

According to the Boston GlobeBrian P. Golden, ex-Allston-Brighton representative from 1999 to 2005, has been chosen by Walsh to fill the shoes of former BRA head Peter Meade, who left office Monday.

Golden was previously named executive director and secretary of the BRA in 2009.

The Globe broke the news earlier Wednesday night, after receiving an email from BRA general counsel Kevin Morrison. The email noted that Golden is authorized to sign-off on all documents.

The BRA has confirmed Walsh’s decision, but it’s unknown how long Golden’s interim tenure will last.

Golden owns a two bedroom home in Newton, and his name doesn’t appear on the the City of Boston assessing page. In 2009, he was a resident of Brighton.

If he isn’t a Boston resident, the Globe notes, this “would not satisfy the residency requirement of many city workers.”

Walsh’s was said to be searching across the country for a new director.

Golden attended law school at Virginia’s William & Mary, graduating in 1992. After, he served as an Army lawyer for more than three years, returning to Boston as General Counsel for the Sheriff’s Department. He remained active in the Army Reserves.

After more than a year with the Sheriff’s Department, he was elected to the State House.

In 2005, then-Governor Mitt Romney appointed him Massachusetts Energy Commissioner. Later, the George W. Bush Administration made him New England Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
