When someone decides to live in Boston, or really anywhere in New England, they know that they’re getting themselves into harsh winters, piles upon piles of hazardous snow and freezing or below freezing temperatures.

When someone decides to live in the South, they probably know that they’ll maybe have to wear a light jacket on the “cold” days where temperatures might drop as low as 40 degrees.

Well, this past week, Southerners received a dose of our arctic misery.

A massive wintery mix of snow and ice landed in the southern states, from Texas to southern Virginia, causing chaos, confusion and horrendous traffic jams. Although the total accumulation of snow only reached a few inches, it was enough to stop vehicles in their frozen tracks and create a standstill for anyone trying to brave the roads or make it home from work or school.

All this mess comes on top of recently being named one of the worst areas in the country for public transportation. It’s been a rough week for our hospitable neighbors down below. Multiple crashes involving cars and trucks have been reported and police have sent out advisories to discourage traveling for the duration of the storm.

Now more than ever it would be beneficial for the South to improve their public transportation system as they face gridlocked highways for hours on end, and we have the pictures of road wreckage to prove it.

Stay safe and relatively warm, our Southern friends. We know the struggle.
