The South was absolutely bombarded with snow last week, reporting as much as 2-inches of accumulation in the various metropolitan areas. Sarcasm aside, the winter weather caused massive traffic delays in the likes of Atlanta, GA. due to torrential roadways which were iced over as a result of the erratic warming and cooling of temperatures. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, however, was all like, f— this traffic, and utilized emergency highway lanes in order to travel to The Weather Channel headquarters for an interview to the chagrin of Georgians and ATL residents.

Thousands traversing ATL’s highways were stranded in the frigid weather and bumper-to-bumper traffic, and when they saw Mayor Reed pass them by it only added to the frustration.

According to the Associated Press, “It happened early Tuesday evening on Interstate 75, at a time when emergency responders were trying to help the thousands of motorists stranded on the jammed highway.”

And though Mayor Reed deemed it necessary and appropriate to abuse wield his municipal power and tend to the interview in person, one thing remains abundantly clear: That shit would never fly here in Boston.

“I thought it was important that he communicate often and that he be visible,” said Mayor Reed’s spokesman Carlos Campos in a statement. “People expect to hear from their leaders during crisis.”

The AP notes further, though, that Campos declined to say whether Skype, telephones or other means of communication were considered as an alternative.

We reached out directly to Mayor Walsh’s office for a comment on the matter and perhaps a little speculation on a reaction from Bostonians if he were to find himself in a similar position, but have yet to receive a response.

The Boston Twittersphere, however, was more than happy to weigh in on the response Mayor Walsh would receive should he opt for special treatment.
