Just in case (somehow) readers haven’t heard by now, here’s a reminder: On March 22, MBTA Government Center station will close for two years, so construction crews can update the rundown facility. Shuttle buses will operate out of the Haymarket busway while the station is closed – and will do so into the early hours of the morning, once the T begins late-night weekend service.

MassDOT spokeswoman Kelly Smith told BostInno shuttle buses will operate until 3 a.m. during the two-year station closure, as soon as the T’s late night weekend service ramps up this spring.

The shuttle route is designated to fill the void left when the T discontinues underground subway stops at Government Center for two years. Once Government Center station shuts down, free shuttle service will run out of the Haymarket bus stop every 20 minutes, Monday through Saturday, beginning at 5:20 a.m. until 12:20 a.m.. On Sundays, shuttle service will start at 6 a.m..

But shuttle service out of Haymarket will run until 3 a.m. when the T launches its late-night weekend service.

Shuttles will make stops at State Street, Government Center, and Bowdoin stations, before returning to Haymarket.

In December, the T announced plans to extend service on all subways trains and its 15 most popular bus routes until 3 a.m. on weekends, starting this March or April.

An exact start-date for the T’s pilot late-night weekend service program has not been announced, but Smith assured an announcement would be made soon – in time for everyone to (hopefully) celebrate some warmer, more pleasant weather.
