We get it Boston, you like to shower us with snowflake love.  After three massive snow attacks, we see what you’re doing…but we would like you to stop.

After Winter Storm Rex swept through yesterday, Boston’s total accumulation stands at 56 inches of snow, according to New England meteorologist David Epstein. But even with all the snow we’ve seen, it’s not breaking any records. It would take a bit more snow to reach the 107.6 inches of snow that fell on Boston during the winter of 1995-1996.

And while we’re talking about records, let’s make note of the freezing temperatures that have been intensified by Boston’s signature bouts of wind. This January, Boston has held an average temperature of 27.4 degrees. Miserable, we know. But it’s only slightly under the normal January temperature of 29 degrees, and that’s nothing compared to the record low temperatures. In January of 1882, Boston dropped to -13 degrees…and then it plummeted to -18 degrees in February, 1934.

Thankfully, it doesn’t look like we’ll be hitting those extremes again. In fact, the weather seems to be going in the opposite direction. Bring your swim suits out of this closet on Friday, because we’ll be getting some balmy temperatures, hovering right around 50 degrees. But really, swim suits might be helpful for the rain we’re going to see along with that. Epstein even thinks there might be some flooding in the streets in the Boston area.

But after that, maybe…just maybe…we’ll be done with the precipitation. There’s nothing but sun (and some clouds) in our future. At least for the next few days. And we know what you’re thinking…it’s not even March yet! We can’t be done with the cold weather! Have no fear, you’ll still have plenty more opportunities to don your winter coat. Boston won’t give up that easily…
