Boston Mayor Marty Walsh took to Twitter on Monday to continue growing the success of his repeated forays into social media. Success in this case can be measured in two ways: satisfaction and analytics. BostInno, for one, was tremendously excited to see how well the mayor has taken to the social media platform. Even better, however, is that there are numbers available to prove his triumph.

If there was a mayor of social media data tracking, it would be Crimson Hexagon. The local monitoring and analysis company examined not only Mayor Walsh’s Monday Twitter Q&A, but also the social media progress he’s made since being inaugurated on January 6. Crimson Hexagon narrowed its focus to keywords, engagement, sent post impressions and number of followers.

As you’ll see per the charts below some of the most-used keywords were: ‘Marty,’ ‘Walsh,’ ‘askmjw,’ ‘Boston,’ ‘mayor,’ ‘forward,’ ‘faxingmattdamon’ and ‘today.’ Sprinkled in, though were the likes ‘pilot,’ in reference to the forthcoming MBTA late-night pilot program service; ‘NotifyBoston,’ the City of Boston’s main Twitter handle which is one medium for contacting City Hall; and ‘jobs,’ a topic that’s on everyone’s mind due to the competitive nature of Boston’s job market and burgeoning industries.

Here are some more statistics alluding to how well the mayor fared yesterday:

  •  Today’s activity for Mayor Walsh’s Twitter handle included more than one million sent post impressions. Sent post impressions highlight total potential impressions of an account’s sent posts within the selected timeframe. Impressions count the amount of times that a particular post could have been seen and is calculated by adding the sender’s followers and the followers of all users who have Retweeted the post.
  • Engagement on February 24 for @Marty_Walsh included 140 retweets, 63 replies, 483 mentions. I’ve included a couple of images that compare this engagement with regular activity on the handle, and this is the highest amount of engagement for @Marty_Walsh since February 1. However, in January he did see some.
  • The Mayor’s handle has also seen a steady rise in followers since January 1, with a little more than 22,600 followers as of yesterday.

Check out the graphics below. Since January 1, Mayor Walsh’s Twitter following has jumped 114 percent to the current 22,614 who follow him as of yesterday. In terms of retweets, mentions and replies, he had one of his most engaging days since his swearing-in, his most engaging in February. Prior to that, his most engaging day was his very first Twitter chat back on January 23.
