[Update] NECN reports that at least 10 people were injured when a MBTA Green Line train derailed, west of Kenmore Station.

MBTA Police had reported that at least six people had been transported to local hospitals. That number has increased. Currently, nine passengers have been taken to local hospitals. Boston EMS says five were taken to Brigham and Women’s; three were transported to Beth Israel; and two were brought to Boston Medical Center.

The two-car D Line train bound for Riverside derailed on Beacon Street shortly after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon, MBTA officials say.

Passengers have been walked off the train to shuttle buses. During an interview with NECN, an official estimated that the train was carrying 60 to 70 passengers.

The driver of the train was among the injured. Thus far, victims are reporting only minor back injuries. Security officials say some people have been transported to local hospitals.

NECN reports the first car derailed forcing a second train to brake as the train made it’s way out of the tunnel from Kenmore Station. The cause of the derailment is still unknown.

The MBTA says severe delays are to be expected. Riders on the D and C line are advised to take trains to Kenmore and transfer to shuttle buses, which will be in place between Kenmore and Fenway and Green Line C trains between Kenmore and St. Mary’s Station.

Crews are currently inside the tunnel assessing damages. The T hopes to restore full D Line service by tomorrow morning.
