The Wahlberg family struck reality TV gold when Wahlburgers premiered on A&E back in January. But judging by the fate of the new Mark Wahlberg-produced docudrama Breaking Boston, it looks like Dorchester’s celebrity family doesn’t always have a Midas TV touch.

The network has apparently pulled the series, which premiered just last week on Thursday, March 13, from its programming schedules. According to Variety, A&E cited an ‘underperformance’ by the show that follows a group of young women, living in Boston and trying to turn their lives around after facing an assortment of obstacles and consequences.

Variety reports that the show pulled in 311,000 viewers in total – compare that to the premiere of Wahlburgers, which saw 3 million-plus viewers when it aired earlier this year, and the season finale, watched by more than 2 million viewers on Wednesday, according to The Wrap.

Wahlberg previously said that just as he arose out of an unstable situation while growing up in Dorchester, he believed that the girls on the series could overcome their own obstacles.

While the exact fate of the rest of the season is yet to be determined, it looks like Breaking Boston will disappear off the air, like Southie Rules and Wicked Single before it, showing that reality TV in a Boston setting is tricky territory, even for Mark Wahlberg.
