The Boston Marathon Finish Line on Boylston Street received a new coat of paint Tuesday morning.

The finish line is repainted every year, Kate Norton, Mayor Marty Walsh’s press secretary, told BostInno in a phone call. After last year’s marathon bombing tragedy, though, it’s safe to say this year’s repainting carries a different type of significance – and people on Twitter are excited about it.

Workers began repainting the finish line overnight, Boston Parks spokesman Ryan Woods confirmed with BostInno in a phone call, referring to information he received from Sean Regan of Boston Public Works.

BostInno reached out to BPW and left a message for Regan. We have yet to hear back.

The Boston Athletic Association handles the repainting of the finish line each year, Norton said. BostInno left a message with the BAA, but didn’t receive an immediate response.

This photo (see: above) was taken last April, two weeks after the bombings. According to the AP:

In this Monday, April 29, 2013, photo, Will Belezos measures the placement of the Boston Marathon logo while repainting the finish line two weeks after the race that was disrupted by two tragic explosions in Boston. Maintenance on the finish line, which typically involves the race-day sticker being pulled up after the event and the paint version touched up as the more permanent parker, was delayed until the crime scene was cleared.

This year’s Boston Marathon will be held next month, Monday, April 21. The finish line is located on Boylston St. in front of the Boston Public Library, between Dartmouth and Exeter streets.
