First there was Tenoch and now it looks as though a second Mexican restaurant could be moving into the North End. Boston Restaurant Talk reports via NorthEndWaterfront.com that a new restaurant called Urban Cantina is moving into the Ferrara’s Kitchen and Bar space on Salem Street.

NorthEndWaterfront.com indicates that there would be a “change of ownership from Vincent Ferrara to Urban Cantina/Frank Scire.” And it looks as though the layout of Ferrara’s restaurant and hours would be the same.

But of course, there would be a change in cuisine. Urban Cantina would change the menu to Mexican cuisine. It’s also indicated that the Licensing Board hearing date isn’t until April 16.

As someone who frequents the North End quite a lot, I have to say I’m pretty excited about this Urban Cantina prospect. As much as I love Italian food, this new restaurant – along with Tenoch and last year’s opening of Pinkberry – are shaking up the North End restaurant scene, offering residents and patrons more options.

When we find out more information, we’ll be sure to update the story accordingly.
