Like you, we’re also pretty excited about the MBTA’s new late night service. Starting tonight, the MBTA will be extending its weekend hours with service until 3 a.m. Not only will this help provide Boston residents with a safe and cheap way to get home after 2 a.m. – but it’s also cause for a different sort of “T” party.

Per a Facebook event, Boston resident, Neil McMullen has organized a “Boston T Party,” for his fellow Bostonian late night T riders. Starting tonight at 10:45 p.m., Boston residents will gather at the Park Street T stop – hot tea in-hand to participate in a late-night T “adventure,” as described on the event page.

The event also emphasizes responsible behavior and positive attitudes. McMullen states in the invite:

“We need to show the city and the T that we appreciate late night service and can use it responsibly. Please, please, please be courteous and respectful to T personnel and your fellow passengers. Please do not break the rules or the law. You could get us all in trouble and jeopardize future late night service. Don’t be that guy!”

Couldn’t have said it better myself. After all, if we’re going to complain about the lack of late night MBTA service, we better not abuse the privilege. Given that it’s only a trial period, Bostonians better “use it or lose it,” as noted in the Boston Globe this month.

For more information on the event, check out the Boston T Party Facebook event page. And as McMullen stated – prepare yourself to “Go forth and do exciting and new things,” now that we finally have more accessible transportation.

We reached out to Neil McMullen for comment and will update the story when we hear back.
