When it comes to late-late night food options, Boston is not exactly booming with variety. In fact, only a handful of round-the-clock restaurants exist for those with a 3 a.m. hankering. What can we say? The city likes to sleep in the wee hours of the morning.

And now that one 24-hour eatery has officially closed, options are even slimmer. According to Eater, Gourmet Express in Porter Square is no longer, after 16 years of business in Cambridge. The deli and food market, which specialized in paninis, wraps and salads and also provided catering, seemed to disappear on an abrupt note, with word only getting out that it would be gone a few hours before its doors closed, somewhere around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Eater and Live Journal report that Gourmet Express was forced to end its lengthy run in Cambridge, as its building will be demolished to make room for a 26-unit residential development in the area.

Wondering where to go for late night eats? Per Eater, there’s a 24-hour CVS and Star Market located near Gourmet Express, by the Porter Square T station. And elsewhere, hungry night owls can visit the South Street Diner, located a few blocks from South Station, Bova’s Bakery in the North End and Victoria’s Diner, located at 1024 Mass Ave.

Where do you go for a late night hunger fix?
