That’s right, hater: Boston isn’t the worst city in America for drivers; it’s the seventh worst city in America for drivers – so there.

The bearer of this somewhat good news, NerdWallet, put together its list of “10 Worst Cities for Car Drivers” after analyzing answers to four questions:

  1. Is it expensive to own a car?
  2. Is the city overcrowded?
  3. Will you be stuck in traffic?
  4. Does it rain or snow a lot?

Despite the obvious answer (for Boston drivers, at least) to all of those questions is probably yes, a thousand percent of the time, NerdWallet took into account city-specific variables while evaluating responses.

Though Boston took home the number seven spot list, NerdWallet still describes it as Hell on Earth for drivers:

Boston drivers have to deal with a lot. The city is one of the densest cities in the United States, and its drivers spend more than two full days a year in extra traffic delays – 53 hours. Bostonians also have to deal with bad weather; it averages 120 days of either rain or snow per year. The pain doesn’t just end with bad weather and congestion. Boston drivers who receive points on their driving records from moving violations will likely see insurance increases for six years, which can cost them upward of a thousand dollars.

Yes, really – there are six cities worse than Boston to drive in.

New York received top honors, followed by Detroit, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Seattle. Rounding out the top ten (after Boston) were Miami, Honolulu and Oakland, in that order.

The lesson here: Living one’s life a quarter-mile at a time in a major city is never easy, you guys.
