Hold onto your chapeau, folks! The South End is about to get a whole lot sweeter. According to an official source, acclaimed pastry chef and James Beard award winner, Frederic Robert, will open a French patisserie in the former Amsterdam Cafe space in the South End this month.

Robert will be joining forces with Pastry Chef Hana Quon, who worked as sous chef to Chef Frederic Robert at PB Boulangerie & Bistro, in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. Together, the two pastry chefs will serve up everything from high end pastries to fresh sandwiches.

According to a release, patrons can expect a “variety of croissants, chausson aux pommes (apple turnover), pain aux raisins, and candied orange tropezienne (filled brioche). Cafe Madeleine pastries will include tarte citron, éclairs, macarons (including raspberry, vanilla, chocolate and hazelnut) and Robert’s ‘signature’ chocolate cake, composed of layers of chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, and gianduja (crispy hazelnut chocolate).” The release also notes that Cafe Madeleine pastries will all be made daily, from scratch, using “fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.”

In addition, Cafe Madeleine will offer a lunch menu for diners, which will include salads, sandwiches and French dishes like quiche Lorraine and croque monsieur. And (of course) Cafe Madeleine will also serve plenty of tasty madeleine cakes!

As of right now, we don’t have an exact opening date for the patisserie but will be sure to keep you updated as we learn more. Cafe Madeleine will be located at 517 Columbus Ave. and will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in the South End.
