On Monday, September 1, Mayor Marty Walsh will take to the Allston-Brighton neighborhoods to examine the progress of move-in day and update others as to how the situation is faring. September 1, which has come to be known as Allston Christmas, is a notorious spectacle for Boston in which hoards of students move in just in time for school to start in the subsequent days.

At 12:30 p.m., Mayor Walsh will be joined by Office of Neighborhood Services Director Jerome Smith, Inspectional Services Department Commissioner Buddy Christopher, and Public Works Department Commissioner Michael Dennehy. Together the fouresome will outline a number of the housing, safety, and code enforcement violations found during the weekend.

Because Allston Christmas is not just one day of craziness. In fact, it falls somewhere between that and eight mayhem so perhaps it should be re-branded Allston Chrismukkah.

But I digress.

Prior to this transitional weekend for Boston, Mayor Walsh announced that he’d be putting some 50 ISD personnel on the streets from Saturday through Monday to make sure that students are moving safely and efficiently, and in the utmost accordance with municipal regulations.

“We’re preparing for an efficient and effective student move-in process this year,” said Mayor Walsh in a prior statement. “By coordinating across departments, we will assist students moving into and across the City to get settled into safe off-campus housing, and provide them with the tools they need to stay connected with the City all year.”

The Mayor Walsh’s office notes further that in addition to offering up violation statistics and outlining the worst kinds of problems plaguing Boston and Allston-Brighton due to the moving weekend, he’ll be putting acknowledging the efforts made by the aforementioned departments to try and make it as smooth an experience as possible.
