Fancred, the highly successful Boston-based sports startup, has officially launched an Android app after months of speculation. The launch essentially completes Fancred’s ability to accommodates all of its core users. It was a systematic process for the sports social network startup, who have methodically launched web and iPhone platforms before moving to Android.

Due to the staggered release of systems, and the fact that Android came so much later than iPhone, Fancred founder and CEO Hossein Kash Razzaghi told BostInno that the company actually received some negative comments about the issue. Even though Fancred has a very loyal and passionate user base, some took issue with the presence of an iPhone app, but no Android equivalent, even accusing Fancred of bias towards Apple.

“Some of the comments we got were negative,” Razzaghi noted about the time prior to the Android app’s release, “whether it was on social media or email, on why, you know,  they said it was ‘bias toward iPhone.'”

Of course, for a company trying to expand in every conceivable way, excluding Android was certainly not the result of a philosophical difference. Many practical reasons went into the extra time that was taken, which Razzaghi said ensured the best possible effort. In the end, Fancred users are thrilled about the result.

“No one’s happier than I am that we’re releasing Android,” he said.

Indeed, the anticipation for the Android app release was to the extent that there was even a waiting list that built up.

“And we had a lot of people on Fancred that told us, ‘I would invite my friend, but I can’t because they’re on Android,'” Razzaghi said.

Now that the app is out, it’s an enormous moment for Fancred.

“That’s certainly the big three,” Razzaghi said. “This is a huge opportunity for us to target more than half of the mobile user base that didn’t have access before.”
